Installation guide
Windows
- Start the installation program and follow the instructions.
- Install the Java Runtime 17 or higher or skip this point if it is already installed.
- Launch easytranscript.
Mac OS X
- Extract the easytranscript.zip file by double-clicking on it.
- Install the Java Runtime 17 or higher or skip this point if it is already installed.
- To start easytranscript, right-click and select "Open" in the context menu. Depending on which Mac you have, the following file is the appropriate one:
- the "easytranscript.jar" file on Macs with an Intel chip (< 2020)
- the "easytranscript-mac-m1-aarch64.jar" file on Macs with an M1 chip or higher (≥ 2020)
Linux/Unix & Portable
To launch easytranscript extract the easytranscript.zip archive and launch the easytranscript.jar file.
Linux/Unix users have to install a Java Runtime with JavaFX in order to run easytranscript.
Optional Software
easytranscript is running better, if you install the VLC mediaplayer (windows only) and the Documentconverter Pandoc.
Both programs extend the list of supported file formats (VLC: media files, Pandoc: export-formats).
Linux/Unix & JavaFX
If you use ...
- Ubuntu 16.04 or older
Please upgrade your OS to the newest version of Ubuntu and follow the steps for Ubuntu 18.04.
- Ubuntu 18.04 or newer
Please follow these instructions:
Install OpenJDK:sudo apt-get install openjdk-17-jre glib2.0 ffmpeg
- Arch Linux
Please execute these commands:pacman -S jre-openjdk java-openjfx

Although officially easytranscript runs on amd64 and x86 processors only, there is a chance that it will run on other architectures as well, as long as there is a compatible JRE.
